Throttle Cable Yamaha RS125 1975-84 RS100 1975-81 RXS100 1983-98
This throttle cable assembly includes the main upper throttle cable, integrated coupler sleeve and lower cable section. The coupler sleeve clips together and can be opened, so on some models this kit can also be used to replace only the upper/main throttle cable while retaining the original lower carburettor cable already fitted to your bike.
- Main cable outer length: 930mm from the handlebar metal bend to the lower fitting, with 65mm inner cable overhang at the lower end.
- Lower cable outer length: 1140mm from the handlebar metal bend, through the coupler sleeve, to the carburettor top cap, with 135mm inner cable overhang at the slider end.
- Handlebar end: Both inner cables have approx 40mm inner cable exposed at the top inside the metal elbow bend for connection to the handlebar twist grip.
- Coupler sleeve: The black plastic coupler sleeve can be carefully unclipped to separate the cable sections where required.
Fitting note, if using the upper cable section only
If you are only using the upper/main cable section and retaining your original lower carburettor cable, carefully open the black plastic coupler sleeve by releasing the side clip. Inside the sleeve you will see the internal slider block.
Pull the lower carburettor inner cable slightly to create slack, then lift the round nipple out of the slider slot. Remove the lower cable outer casing from the sleeve cap.
Fit your original lower carburettor cable into the new coupler sleeve, making sure the nipple is seated correctly in the slider block. Clip the new coupler sleeve fully closed and make sure it is securely locked together.
Fit the handlebar end into the twist grip and adjust the cable free play before use.
Important: Always check that the throttle opens and closes smoothly before starting the motorcycle. The throttle must snap shut freely when released. If unsure, professional fitting is recommended.

Some motorcycles use a single pull throttle cable, while others use two throttle cables:
- Throttle Cable A or 1, pull cable
- Throttle Cable B or 2, return cable
The pull cable opens the throttle when the twist grip is turned. The return cable helps pull the throttle closed when the twist grip is rolled forward, providing an additional safety return action alongside the throttle return spring.
