Fitting Instructions

Important Safety Notice: Motorcycle hydraulic systems are a safety-critical component. If you are not completely confident bleeding and installing hydraulic systems, please have this kit fitted by a qualified motorcycle mechanic.

  • Step 1: Drain the System Use a syringe or bleed hose to drain all the old fluid from your master cylinder, calipers, or clutch slave cylinder before disconnecting your old lines.
  • Step 2: Clean the Component Ports Remove the original lines. Clean the internal threads of your master cylinder and calipers or clutch slave cylinder thoroughly using dedicated brake cleaner to remove old residue or debris.
  • Step 3: Prepare the Fittings & Adapters If your specific kit includes conversion adapters or modular fittings, hand-thread them directly into the ports first. Tighten them firmly to the manufacturer’s torque specifications.
  • Step 4: Position the Fittings & Hoses Position the new HEL lines and connect the fittings to your components. If a fitting needs to be rotated, firmly hold the ferrule at the end of the line using a suitable gripping tool, insert a banjo bolt or similar suitable bolt through the banjo eye to avoid damaging it, then carefully rotate the fitting to the required angle. Hold the hose steady while tightening so it does not twist.
  • Step 5: Route the Lines Safely Route the lines cleanly along the motorcycle frame or forks. Ensure they bypass all moving parts without catching, pinching, kinking, twisting, stretching, or becoming trapped when the handlebars and suspension are moved through their full range of travel. Lines may arrive with slight flat spots, these should disappear once the system is fitted and bled.
  • Step 6: Secure the Connections Fasten all remaining banjo bolts. Fit a fresh copper crush washer on both sides of every banjo eyelet and tighten all connections to the correct torque.
  • Step 7: Bleed the System Fill the reservoir with fresh, recommended brake fluid, typically DOT 4 or DOT 5.1. Bleed the system thoroughly until all air bubbles are completely gone and the lever or pedal feels firm and responsive.
  • Step 8: Final Safety Check Carry out a meticulous visual inspection before riding. Check every fitting for leaks, ensure all connections are secure, and confirm the lines remain free from kinks, twists, stretching, or trapping throughout full steering and suspension movement. Initially move the motorcycle forward only a few feet at low speed, apply the brakes, then stop and inspect the system again for leaks before normal use.

Banjo Bolt Torque Settings

  • Minimum – 20Nm (14 lbf⋅ft)
  • Maximum – 33Nm (24 lbf⋅ft)
